【2026 East Gathering｜Echoing Glocalities
Honoured to be one of three Hong Kong representative presenters at East Gathering 2026 Taipei, and to mark ARTA Architects' first participation in this meaningful gathering.
Arnold @aw.yf and Tat @tatlaiw shared projects ranging from architecture and public space to interiors and furniture, while exchanging ideas with designers from Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan.
A key reflection emerged: as AI rapidly transforms the creative landscape and competition intensifies, collaboration across cultures and disciplines has become more important than ever. One particularly inspiring takeaway from Japan was the idea of Glocalities - celebrating local materials and traditional craftsmanship while embracing contemporary digital innovation and fabrication methods.
What resonated most in Taipei was discovering how many young practices across Asia share similar challenges and aspirations. As clients increasingly seek unconventional and atypical projects, designers are naturally moving beyond traditional boundaries and across disciplines. Perhaps this growing ambiguity is not a limitation, but an opportunity to redefine what design practice can be.
Special thanks to Hong Kong Interior Design Association @hkida_official for the invitation and support, Chinese Society of Interior Designers @csidtid for hosting this year's gathering in Taipei, and Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association @jcd_japan for fostering an enriching cross-cultural dialogue.
Grateful for the conversations, new connections, and shared optimism for the future of design, we are looking forward to next year East Gathering in Hong Kong.
